Festive Running Round Up

Ashford Striders have had a busy festive season with several parkruns and longer challenges taking place.

There have been 4 during the festive season:

The pre-Christmas parkrun on 22nd December saw new PB times for Greg Johnson (23:40), Tom Bullen (24:39), Willem Delport (27:10), Rachel Oliver (30:10) and Toyah Bicker (32:54).  Other times – Nicola Crawley (26:08), Daniel Forbes (26:34), Sara Hunt (27:09), Mark Archer (27:17), David Gadsby (28:19), Stephen Rumsey (26:38), Tamsin Ritchie (28:53), Rebecca Hurley (28:58), Rachel Forrester (29:55), Alison Waters (30:02), Emma Jeffery (30:11), Katie Iggulden Exon (30:49), Josh Whiten (32:55), Danielle Moss (38:09), Linda-Jean Delport (38:10), Rachel Brisley (41:35)

There was a good turn out at the ever popular Christmas day run where Daniel Forbes was first home for Striders in 23:27.  Jason Sanders was close behind in 23:38. Other times – Mark Archer (25:09), Justin Burden (25:53), Nicola Crawley (27:45), Justine Wearn (28:17), Jason Wearn (28:19), Lee Standen (28:24), Rachel Brisley (28:42), Rebecca Hurley (28:52), Simon Jackson (30:01), David Gadsby (30:08), Katie Iggulden Exon (30:55), Mel Cox (32:14), Rachel Forrester (32:55), Hazel Forrester (32:57), Tamsin Ritchie (36:42), Clare Maxlow (38:55), Clare Dunn (45:35)

At the post-Christmas parkrun on the 29th December, Jake Davison set an impressive time of 20:25 with Josh Whiten next in 24:39.  Emma Jeffery (24:54), Alison Waters (24:58) and Greg Johnson (24:58) all completed sub-25 minute runs.  Danielle Moss set a new PB of 37:56. Other times – Justin Burden (25:35), Sara Hunt (25:50), Willem Delport (28 :23), Linda-Jean Delport (28:24), Maria Chapman (28:51), Rachel Forrester (29 :43), Rachel Oliver (30 :21), Jason Sanders (30:21), Reece Corner (31 :27), Mel Cox (31 :31), Hazel Forrester (31:38), Clare Maxlow (33:45), Lee Standen (33:46), Katie Iggulden Exon (35:23), Toyah Bicker (37:31), Allison Button (37:55), Tyree Spicer (37:58),  Pam Hunt (38 :06) and Rebecca Hurley (59 :36) volunteering.

The first parkrun of 2019 saw Stephen Rumsey (25:38), Rachel Oliver (30:00) and Kirsty Thoebald (36:01) all start the year with a PB.  First home for Striders was head coach Ross Sadd (20:42) in 5th place overall.  Linda-Jean Delport was 2nd placed female in 22:22.  Daniel Forbes completed the 5k in 23:54.  Other times – Justin Burden (24:56), Cris Francis (25:03), Kath Atkinson (25:14), Josh Whiten (25:19), Nicola Crawley (25:48), Rebecca Hurley (28:06), Maria Chapman (28:18), Mark Archer (28:26), Emma Jeffery (28:40), Rachel Brisley (28:45), Rachel Forrester (29:37), Simon Jackson (30:30), Mel Cox (31:13), Hazel Forrester (31:55), Toyah Bicker (36:02), Pam Hunt (36:23) and Willem Delport (36:24)

Other Parkruns

Ashford Striders members took part in a number of other parkruns during the season as follows:

Kath Atkinson ran at Hilton – South Africa in 28:43.  Lee Standen and Tyree Spicer ran at Walmer & Deal Parkrun completing the course in times of 32:20 and 32:26 respectively.  Simon Jackson ran at Lancing Beach Green in 29:09.

On New Year’s Day Cris Francis (28:26 and 30:24) Lee Standen (29:15 and 28:52) Simon Jackson (30:13 and 30:33), Ian Dunning (28:27 and 30:23) and Tyree Spicer (31:51 and 34:35) completed the Maidstone and Shorne Woods “Double”.  

Rebecca Hurley travelled further afield for an epic new year’s day double challenge, running the Amager Faelled parkrun in Demark in 27:47 before travelling to another country entirely, across the water to Malmo in Sweden to run their parkrun which she completed in a time of 29:42

Saxon Shore Marathon

5 Striders members took on the latest challenge with Peter Lane and Cris Francis completing the marathon distance of 5 laps in 5:11:43 and 5:11:49 respectively.  Ian Dunning completed 3 laps (15:75 miles) in 2:57:04. Lee Standen achieved 2 laps (10.5 miles) in 2:02:52 and Tyree Spicer achieved 1 lap (5.25 miles) in 1:12:59.

Saltwood Boxing Day 3 Mile

Jason Wearn, Justine Wearn and Nicola Crawley ran the challenging festive season run together in a time of 43:08

Staplehurt 10 Mile

Linda-Jean Delport was the lone Strider at the Staplehurst run to end the year, where she achieved an excellent PB time of 1:16:20.

Lamberhurst 5k & 10k

Jason Sanders had an excellent run in the challenging 10k, with a time of 50:49.  Sara Hunt was a finisher in 1:00:01 and Willem Delport was close behind in 1:02:21.  Toyah Bicker ran 1:12:52 and Danielle Mackenzie in 1:12:56.

In the undulating 5k race, Justin Burden completed the route in 30:54 with Kirsty Theobald and Allison Button finishing in 44:17.  Danielle Moss finished in 47:52.
