Ashford Striders Run Report w/e 6th July 2025

After a mixed weekend weather wise we’ve seen races and runs in the heat and the torrential rain! Our handicap run in the park on Thursday was a particular highlight of my week and I didn’t even run! Everyone there either running or supporting did their absolute best and it really showed what an awesome club we have.

We started the weekend on Friday evening with the Rye Summer Series Race 2 – 5km and 10km races. A gaggle of striders travelled down to Rye in warm conditions with reports of a head wind on the return leg! First to finish the 5k was Lionel Hammond – fresh from his awesome handicap run on Thursday, he managed a fantastic time of 25:15 a personal best too! Returning to form was Donna Hammond next in with 35:01! Completing the 10km and first over the line for Striders was Dave Winchester in 51:37 setting a trend with his Strider bucket hat ❤️ Stepping up his marathon training Ash Robinson completed the 10k in 1:05:42. Well done everyone.

A quiet week for races but some busy weekends coming up! If you fancy joining in on the fun check out Spond for some up coming races and get entering – it’s all good fun!

Finally, lots of luck to the relay teams in Canterbury on Tuesday – the final leg and it’s looking like the most popular session yet! There was even mention of some celebratory picky bits afterwards so if you fancy heading over to support this is the week to do it!

To end with a quote, I’ve chosen this one:

“Our running shoes have magic in them. The power to transform a bad day into a good day; frustration into speed; self-doubt into confidence; chocolate cake into muscle.” —Mina Samuels
