Despite another storm hitting the UK on this Leap Year, the Striders were out in force at the Ashford parkrun. Ending February with personal bests were Ian McCutechon, Vicky Stevenson and Julie Greenwood. Lee Standen travelled to his first overseas parkrun and completed the inaugural Karlingse Bos parkrun in Rotterdam in 28.12. Becca and Adrian Hurley travelled to South London and both completed the Crystal Palace Park parkrun in 32.20.


The sun came out on Sunday in London for the big half marathon with Julie Virani 2.07.45, Lyndsey Appleton 2.06.53 and Justine Wearn 2.08.52 all representing the Striders.


Jason Sanders travelled to the coast to complete the Eastbourne half marathon in 2.03.46.


Steve & Amanda Williams represented the Striders in Malta with Steve completing the marathon in 4.01.53 and Amanda completing the half marathon in 3.03.42.

Adrian Hurley travelled to Canterbury and completed the parkrun in 29.32. Josh Whiten completed Folkestone’s parkrun in 25.14 and Jamie Bartlett 26.12, Lee Standen 29.04, Claire Poile 31.46 and Kay Deveraux 31.53 all completed the Whitstable parkrun.


Lisa Fulcher completed 18.75 miles at the SVN Moonlight Challenge in 4.38.57.


Mark Fairbrother travelled to Battle to take part in the Gunpowder Run and completed the 8K in 44.19.

This week’s parkrun in Ashford was a huge Strider takeover which coincided with the winter Couch to 5K group’s graduation. Huge well done to Claire Mackenzie, Danielle Mackenzie, Amy Archer, Emma Jane Bowden and Julie Greenwood. They started the course in Storm Brendan, battled through Storm Ciara and just missed Storm Dennis so the weather over the 5 weeks was not on our side, so well done to everyone that joined us throughout the course.

The threat of storm Dennis didn’t put off a hardy group of Striders who went on to complete the half marathon in Headcorn. Nicki Crawley 33.25, Jason Wearn 33.26 and Justin Wearn 33.25 all travelled to Tunbridge Wells which happens to be Dame Kelly Holmes’s home parkrun and were lucky enough to meet her.

Becca Hurley was once again on the road travelling to Southwark parkrun completing in 28.39. Adrian Hurley also completed in 28.33.

Jacob Henwood was at Burgess parkrun completing in 20.25. Simon Howard-Smith and Michelle Rowles were at Folkestone parkrun completing in 41.05 and 41.06 respectively.

Jeannette French was at Erddig parkrun in Wales, completing in 35.45 and Martin Whittingham was at Oaklands parkrun finishing in 28.42.

Greg Johnson completed the Great Run Local 5k in 25.16. Tamsin Ritchie completed the 2k in 10.43 and Danielle Moss completed in 15.28.


A good Strider representation at the Canterbury 10 miler saw Chris Sardo being the first Strider to finish in 1.14.30, followed by Kath Atkinson finish in 1.19.33 followed by Nathan Mansfield 1.24.32, Jason Sanders 1.26.38, Shane Snowwolf 1.28.14, Nicki Crawley 1.31.35, Lee Standen 1.35.30 and a personal best, Vicky Stevenson 1.35.41, Andy Found 1.40.14, Julie Goddard 1.57.03, Riona Sparks 1.57.03, Scott Williams, 1.58.39 and Rachel Misson 1.58.41.

With no Ashford parkrun and the option of doing a double on New Years Day, the Striders were on the road early travelling. Becca Hurley completed Greenwich parkrun and then Catford parkrun in 28.11 and 27.26. Justin Burden completed Whitstable and Pegwell Bay in 24.08 and 24.06. Jacob Henwood completed Walmer and Deal and Folkestone in 20.05 and 19.43 (which was a PB for that course). Jason Sanders travelled to Walmer and Deal and Pegwell Bay, finishing in 24.22 and 24.00 Lee Standen was also at Walmer and Deal and Pegwell Bay, completing in 28.22 and 26.41. Those doing the single parkrun were Tamsin Richie who completed the Canterbury parkun in 29.45. In Folkestone were Rob Wood 23.59, Shane Snowwolf 23.59, Peter Broom 28.35, Justine Wearn 29.05 and Jason Wearn 29.07. Lisa Fulcher completed the Cyclopark parkrun in 32.12.

Nicki Crawley was the sole Strider who completed the Lamberhurst 10k at Bewl Water on New Years Day in 53.57.

A large turnout of 349 parkrunners took part in the first Ashford parkrun of 2020, with a good Strider turnout. In a bid to retain her Most Frequent Parkrun Tourist award, Becca Hurley was again on the road with Adrian Hurley, this time to Essex taking part in the Hadleigh parkrun, completing in 31.06 and 32.45 respectively. Travelling to Pegwell Bay were Nicki Crawley 24.11, Justine Wearn 27.41 and Jason Wearn 27.42.

Greg Johnson was the first to complete the 5K in 27.45 followed by Jamie Bartlett 29.17, Kelli Sullivan 33.36, Kirsty Theobald 36.46 and Clare Maxlow and Sarahjane Knight who both completed in 42.51. Danielle Moss, Carly James and Pam Hunt all completed the 2K.

On Christmas Eve a number of Striders took part in this untimed 7.5 mile run. Justine Wearn, Jason Wearn, Becca Hurley, Rachel Oliver, Chris Sardo, Cris Francis, Alison Waters, Nicki Crawley, Josh Whiten, Shane Snowwolf and Lisa Fulcher took on the mud and hills.

A huge turnout on Christmas day for the Ashford parkrun saw Peter Broom celebrating Christmas with a festive personal best and also congratulations to Nicki Crawley and Martin Whittingham for completing their 50th parkrun. John Mitchell was in Halifax to complete the parkrun in 29.47. Alice Cook took part in the Rickmansworth parkrun finishing in 23.22 and Danielle Moss completed the Banstead Woods parkrun in 41.51.

Blowing away the Christmas Day cobwebs at the Saltwood 3 miler were Jacob Henwood 21.28, Becca Hurley 36.53, Jason Wearn 47.21, Justine Wearn 47.21 and Nicki Crawley 48.09.

256 parkrunners turned up at Ashford on the Saturday between Christmas and New Year. John Mitchell celebrated a personal best and Sara Dewar completed her 50th parkrun. Lisa Fulcher travelled to Hastings and completed the parkrun in 30.16. Jacob Henwood was in Folkestone and finished in 20.36. Kath Atkinson completed the Eastbourne parkrun in 25.02 and Becca Hurley kept up her tourism travels by completing the Bromley parkrun in 26.56.

Completing the ten miler end of year run in Staplehurst was Rob Wood 1.23.29, Alice Cook 1.25.33 and Alison Waters 1.26.56.

Becca Hurley was on the road again this week, taking part in the undulating muddy Banstead Woods parkrun and completed it in 28.30. Jacob Henwood and Rachel Oliver travelled to Folkstone finishing in 20.43 and 31.29 respectively. Alice Cook completed the Rickmansworth parkrun in 23.45 and Nicki Crawley completed the Bedgebury Pinetum parkrun in 29.24.


Jamie Bartlett and Leigh Freeman completed the muddy Kings Hil 10K in 1.05 and 1.15 respectively.

Jacob Henwood travelled to Hamburg to complete the Alstervorland parkrun, completing in 21.20 and finishing 4th overall. Becca Hurley continued her tourism by travelling to Billericay completing in 28.59.

Shane Snowwolf took part in the Usual Suspects at Samphire Hoe on Saturday. He completed 5 laps (16.4 miles) in 3.15.19.

Lisa Gribbin completed the Santa Dash 5k in 33.17.

Andy Found took part in the Betteshanger Xmas Cracker 5 mil race and completed in 44.57.

John Mitchell was the lone Strider to take part in the Great Run local and completed the 5K in 29.30.
