335 people took part in Saturday’s Ashford parkrun and as usual there was a good Strider representation. Club Chair Toyah Bicker celebrated her 50th parkrun and Jason Brice and Claire Poile celebrated personal bests.The first Strider to finish was Chris Sardo 21.43, followed by Rob Wood 22.35. Becca Hurley was on the road again traveling to the undulating Ally Pally parkrun completing in 36.19. Accompanying her were Adrian Hurley and Lee Standen who completed in 31.22 and 29.50 respectively. John Mitchell was in Halifax completing in 30.46. Anna Harvey completed the Portrush parkrun in Northern Ireland in 36.48. Alice Cook took part in the Rickmansworth parkrun, completing in 23.48 and Jacob Henwood took part in the Mile End parkrun in 20.12.

Brian Marsh completed Sunday’s Great Run Local 5K in 25.13 along with Tamsin Ritchie 28.23. Becca Hurley completed the 2K in 12.21.

Weekly Report

With no Ashford parkrun and the option of doing a double on New Years Day, the Striders were on the road early travelling. Becca Hurley completed Greenwich parkrun and then Catford parkrun in 28.11 and 27.26. Justin Burden completed Whitstable and Pegwell Bay in 24.08 and 24.06. Jacob Henwood completed Walmer and Deal and Folkestone in 20.05 and 19.43 (which was a PB for that course). Jason Sanders travelled to Walmer and Deal and Pegwell Bay, finishing in 24.22 and 24.00 Lee Standen was also at Walmer and Deal and Pegwell Bay, completing in 28.22 and 26.41. Those doing the single parkrun were Tamsin Richie who completed the Canterbury parkun in 29.45. In Folkestone were Rob Wood 23.59, Shane Snowwolf 23.59, Peter Broom 28.35, Justine Wearn 29.05 and Jason Wearn 29.07. Lisa Fulcher completed the Cyclopark parkrun in 32.12.

Nicki Crawley was the sole Strider who completed the Lamberhurst 10k at Bewl Water on New Years Day in 53.57.

A large turnout of 349 parkrunners took part in the first Ashford parkrun of 2020, with a good Strider turnout. In a bid to retain her Most Frequent Parkrun Tourist award, Becca Hurley was again on the road with Adrian Hurley, this time to Essex taking part in the Hadleigh parkrun, completing in 31.06 and 32.45 respectively. Travelling to Pegwell Bay were Nicki Crawley 24.11, Justine Wearn 27.41 and Jason Wearn 27.42.

Greg Johnson was the first to complete the 5K in 27.45 followed by Jamie Bartlett 29.17, Kelli Sullivan 33.36, Kirsty Theobald 36.46 and Clare Maxlow and Sarahjane Knight who both completed in 42.51. Danielle Moss, Carly James and Pam Hunt all completed the 2K.

Weekly Report

On Christmas Eve a number of Striders took part in this untimed 7.5 mile run. Justine Wearn, Jason Wearn, Becca Hurley, Rachel Oliver, Chris Sardo, Cris Francis, Alison Waters, Nicki Crawley, Josh Whiten, Shane Snowwolf and Lisa Fulcher took on the mud and hills.

A huge turnout on Christmas day for the Ashford parkrun saw Peter Broom celebrating Christmas with a festive personal best and also congratulations to Nicki Crawley and Martin Whittingham for completing their 50th parkrun. John Mitchell was in Halifax to complete the parkrun in 29.47. Alice Cook took part in the Rickmansworth parkrun finishing in 23.22 and Danielle Moss completed the Banstead Woods parkrun in 41.51.

Blowing away the Christmas Day cobwebs at the Saltwood 3 miler were Jacob Henwood 21.28, Becca Hurley 36.53, Jason Wearn 47.21, Justine Wearn 47.21 and Nicki Crawley 48.09.

256 parkrunners turned up at Ashford on the Saturday between Christmas and New Year. John Mitchell celebrated a personal best and Sara Dewar completed her 50th parkrun. Lisa Fulcher travelled to Hastings and completed the parkrun in 30.16. Jacob Henwood was in Folkestone and finished in 20.36. Kath Atkinson completed the Eastbourne parkrun in 25.02 and Becca Hurley kept up her tourism travels by completing the Bromley parkrun in 26.56.

Completing the ten miler end of year run in Staplehurst was Rob Wood 1.23.29, Alice Cook 1.25.33 and Alison Waters 1.26.56.

At Ashford parkrun on Saturday 145 hardy people braved the rain and despite the slippery conditions a number of Striders achieved personal bests. Celebrating were Lee Standen, Vicky Stevenson, Andy Found and Peter Broom.

Becca Hurley was on the road again this week, taking part in the undulating muddy Banstead Woods parkrun and completed it in 28.30. Jacob Henwood and Rachel Oliver travelled to Folkstone finishing in 20.43 and 31.29 respectively. Alice Cook completed the Rickmansworth parkrun in 23.45 and Nicki Crawley completed the Bedgebury Pinetum parkrun in 29.24.


Jamie Bartlett and Leigh Freeman completed the muddy Kings Hil 10K in 1.05 and 1.15 respectively.


Cris Francis, Alison Waters and Linda Jean Delport all completed the 7.5 mile course in Croydon.

Jacob Henwood travelled to Hamburg to complete the Alstervorland parkrun, completing in 21.20 and finishing 4th overall. Becca Hurley continued her tourism by travelling to Billericay completing in 28.59.

Shane Snowwolf took part in the Usual Suspects at Samphire Hoe on Saturday. He completed 5 laps (16.4 miles) in 3.15.19.

Lisa Gribbin completed the Santa Dash 5k in 33.17.

Andy Found took part in the Betteshanger Xmas Cracker 5 mil race and completed in 44.57.

John Mitchell was the lone Strider to take part in the Great Run local and completed the 5K in 29.30.

A group of Striders travelled up the road to Maidstone to take part in the festive 6.5-mile Turkey Run. Nicki Crawley was the first Strider to finish in 1.26.21 followed closely by Justine Wearn 1.26.22, Nettie Yardley 1.31.13, Rachel Oliver 1.31.26, Hazel Forrester 1.32.04, Nathan Mansfield 1.32.05, Lisa Jones 1.38.47, Lisa Fulcher 1.42.32 and Riona Sparks 1.45.34.

Jason Sanders completed the 20 mile run in 3.20.42

Alice Cook and Martin Whittingham both took part in this 5k Santa run which was not chip timed.

John Mitchell and Becca Hurley took part in Sunday’s Great Run Local completing in 29.16 and 29.18 respectively.

This week Jacob Henwood completed the Victoria Dock parkrun in 21.00 and Alice Cook was in Rickmansworth finishing in 23.21. Becca Hurley was on the other side of the world and completed the New Farm Parkrun in Australia in 29.03.

Kath Atkinson was the 11th lady overall to complete this 9 mile trail run in a time of 1.17.18.

Victoria Park Summer Series – Race 2

Ashford Striders at the Victoria Park summer series event

Jacob Henwood was victorious coming in in first place at the second of the summer series 5k events, finishing in 20:25. Linda-Jean Delport bagged 3rd place in 21:54, with Justin Burden in 24:18, Rachel Theobald in 32:37, Kevin York in 32:38 and Willem Delport finishing in 35:52.

Ashford Parkrun

Paul McDonnell put in a superb performance to finish in 8th place at this week’s record-breaking event in a time of 18:50. He was followed home by Duncan Forbes in 20:51, in 25th place and Linda-Jean Delport who finished 3rd female overall and in 21:33. Frank Remigio set another new PB in 23:01 in 60th place. Justin Burden was next to finish in 35:35 with Josh Whiten (24:00) and Shane Snowwolf (24:11) both finishing sub-25 minutes. Reece Corner (25:28), Kevin York (26:05), Stephen Rumsey (26:13), Tamsin Ritchie (28:11), Rebecca Hurley (28:16), Andy Found (28:23), Nigel Hills (29:20 – new PB), Rachel Oliver (29:38), Brian Forrester (29:38 – new PB) and Martin Whittingham (29:57) all came in under the 30 minute mark.

Sara Dewar was next to cross the line in 30:17, followed by Hazel Forrester (30:40), Vicky Stevenson (31:50), Lisa Gribbin (33:01 – new PB), Mark Archer (33:29), Toyah Bicker (35:43), Allison Button (36:28) and Emily Moors (38:53)

Parkrun Tourism

Jacob Henwood took 11th place overall at Canterbury parkrun, in an excellent 21:52. He also finished 1st in his age category. Nicola Crawley and Justine Wearn travelled to Whitstable where they finished in 27:28 and 27:51 respectively. Dave and Pam Hunt were further afield in Riddlesdown, with Dave finishing in 28:01 and Pam in 39:58 – both setting new personal best times.

Cris Francis and Alison Waters ran at Malling parkrun, with Cris setting a time of 22:01 in 24th position and Alison finishing in 24:51 – a new personal best.

Race To The Stones Double Marathon

Rachel Misson took on the Ultra challenge, taking on 100 kilometres of the British countryside from Oxfordshire to Avebury. She completed the event in a time across the two days of 19 hours 9 minutes 27 seconds.

Sevenoaks 7

Justine Wearn and Nicola Crawley ran together at the Sevenoaks 7 mile event, through the scenic Knole Park, with a mixture of undulating tracks and grassy paths. 

Wearn came across the line in 1:09:46 with Crawley just 2 seconds behind in 1:09:46

Mid Kent 5 Miler

Rebecca Hurley was the solo Strider at the 12th annual mid Kent 5 mile race, which she finished in a time of 45:59.

Shoreditch 10k

Jacob Henwood ran another superb race at the London event, where he set a new 10k personal best time of 42:44.

Rye 10k

It was a successful night for a small group from the club who took part in the Rye 10k on Friday evening, around the Rye Harbour and nature reserve. Justin Burden posted only his 3rd sub-50 minute finish, in 49:59 while Sarahjane Knight completed her first ever 10k race in 1:10:45 alongside Clare Maxlow in 1:10:53, who set a new personal best. Danielle Moss also set a new PB finishing the race in 1:15:11.

Ashford Parkrun 

Ashford Striders were out in force on Saturday morning at Victoria Park, with the club taking over and hosting the event to co-incide with the end of their latest Couch to 5k group, providing all volunteer roles around the course and several pacemakers.

Duncan Forbes was first to finish for the club, in 21:30 placing him 24th overall. Frank Remigio was next for the club, setting a new PB of 23:38 in placing him 58th. Justin Burden was just behind in 62nd in 23:44. Alison Waters, pacing was next to finish, in 25:51 with Shane Snowwolf, also pacing, in 26:44, Kevin York in 26:49 and Rebecca Hurley in 29:17. First time parkrunners Nigel Hills (30:45), Beth Freeman (30:49) and mum Nettie Freeman (30:53) were next to finish, followed by Vicky Stevenson (31:29) and Tyree Spicer (33:57) who were both providing paced times. C25K graduate Lisa Gribbin (34:42), Anna Smith (34:54) and Jacqueline Quain (35:56) were next to cross the line, who were all running their first parkruns. C25K run leader Toyah Bicker, pacing, was next home in 35:56 with first time parkrunner Charisse Whitbourn (36:39) and Lisa Chapman (37:33). Willem Delport finished in 39:26 with C25K run leader Pam Hunt just behind (39:42). Clare Maxlow was this week’s tail walker.

Herne Bay 10k

Jason Sanders and Lee Standen represented the club at this year’s coastal event, with Sanders finishing in 51:09 and Standen in 57:17.

Bewl 15 mile

Jacob Henwood took part in the challenging run around the reservoir at Bewl, setting a time of 2:09:51 for the tough course.

Great Run Local

Nicola Crawley took part in this week’s Great Run Local at Kingsnorth, finishing in a time of 26:47.

North Downs Way Marathon

Dave Hunt continued his monthly marathon quest, taking part in the North Downs Way Marathon across some hilly and challenging terrain. He finished the scenic trail course in 6:18:41.

Ashford GoTri

Linda-Jean Delport and Alison Waters took part in the first of Ashford’s Go Tri series organised by TriSpirit Events, aimed at those new to the sport. Delport completed the 160m pool swim, 6km bike and 2km run in 30:52 with Waters finishing in 31:28.

Ashford Parkrun

Paul McDonnell came home in 9th place overall at this week’s Victoria Park 5k. Despite the early morning heat, he clocked up an impressive time of 19:54. Duncan Forbes was the second to finish for the club in 45th place overall, in a time of 23:57. Alison Waters finished third for Striders and 7th female finisher in 24:46. Frank Remigio was just a few seconds behind in 24:50 with Josh Whiten not far behind in25:08. Justine Wearn also secured a ladies’ top 20 place with a time of 28;13 alongside husband Jason who finished in 28:15.

Stephen Rumsey (30:11) and Rebecca Hurley (30:13) were next to finish, with Vicky Stevenson (31:21) and Rachel Oliver (31:58) just behind. Brian Forrester finished in 33:52, just ahead of wife Hazel (33:58). Toyah Bicker was next home in 35:58, followed by Danielle Moss in 41:29, Tamsin Ritchie in 41:45 and Martin Whittingham in 57:25. 

Volunteer support was provided at this week’s event by club members Justin Burden, Cris Francis, Jacob Henwood, Simon Jackson and Alison Waters.

Parkrun Tourism

Rachel Theobald and Kevin York travelled to Felixstowe Parkrun where they both completed the 5k course in 30:22.

Lee Valley Velopark 10k

Lee Standen and Clare Maxlow represented Ashford Striders at the Lee Valley 10k run, completing just over 6 x 1 mile loops of the course. Despite the searing heat and absence of any shade, they finished the race in 1:18:24 and 1:18:25 respectively.

The Family Marathon

The Hunt family taking part in The Family Marathon

Striders’ Dave and Pam Hunt took part in the family marathon event, based on a 1 mile lap course of London’s Victoria Park. 

Dave completed a half marathon distance of 13 laps in 2:29:49, with Pam completing 3 laps alongside 7 year old son Dylan in 43:44, and 5 year old Ethan completing 1 full lap of the course.

Port Lympne Challenge

A small group of Striders took part in the Port Lympne challenge, taking in the scenery and wildlife of the zoo. Danielle Moss completed the 5k route option in 51:42 with Allison Button just behind in 54:26.

Jacob Henwood finished in an excellent 3rd place overall on the challenging and hilly 10k route, in a time of 51:13. Martin Whittingham completed the distance in 1:17:26 with Gemma Wicks finishing in 1:32:34.

Great Run Local

Brian Marsh took part in Kingsnorth’s Great Run local on Sunday where he finished in 23:18.

Humber Bridge Half Marathon

Helen Weeden travelled further afield to compete in the Humber Bridge half marathon, which she completed in 2:27:38.
