Givaudan Ashford 10k

Ashford Striders put in a great team performance at this year’s Givaudan 10k, with a number of members setting new personal best times. Kath Atkinson was first home for the club, with an excellent new PB of 44:45, finishing as 11 th placed female runner and 5 th in the Senior Women category. Close behind were Cris Francis (45:21), Justin Burden (48:25) and Kyleigh Austen (49:19) all achieving new PBs. Linda Delport was next home in 50:11 and she was followed by Alison Waters (51:31) and Jamie Bartlett (51:42) who also set new PBs.

Striders team at Givaudan 10k

Nicola Crawley was next home in 52:33 with Corrie Shackle close behind in 52:54. Mark Archer (54:47) and Rebecca Hurley (56:00) followed and then Libby Matthews (1:05:37), Toyah Bicker (1:12:15 – new PB), Ruth Goddard (1:17:15) and Danielle Moss (1:28:37).

Bournemouth Marathon & Half

Striders Peter Lane and Clare Maxlow travelled to the South Coast to take part in this year’s marathon on a warm autumn morning. Lane finished the 26.2 mile course in a time of 4:25:53 and Maxlow in 6:31:26.

Meanwhile, Catherine Lane took on the Bournemouth half marathon, completing the 13.1 miles in a personal best of 3:16:39.

Tonbridge Half Marathon

Lee Standen was the lone Strider taking part in an undulating Tonbridge half marathon. His time of 2:07:36 was a new personal best, running 9 minutes faster than his previous time in 2017.

Brighton 10 mile

Jason Sanders and Tyree Spicer travelled to Brighton to compete in this year’s 10 mile run. Sanders set an excellent time of 1:25:12 and Spicer a new personal best of 1:39:19.

Parkrun

Justin Burden was first to finish for Striders setting a new PB of 22:38 and finishing in 26 th place overall. Jason Sanders in 41 st place completed the run in 24:40. He was followed by Mark Archer (27:15), Josh Whiten (27:18), Cris Francis (27:19) and Rebecca Hurley (27:22), with Rachel Brisley (28:13) and Steve Rumsey (28:43) also finishing well.

Rachel Oliver at Cairns Parkrun

Ashford Striders’ Rachel Oliver took Parkrun tourism to another level, running the Cairns Pakrrun in Australia. Oliver finished the 5k course in hot conditions in a time of 33:09.

Parkrun

There was a bright and sunny feel to this week’s Ashford Parkrun with many of Ashford Striders taking part either as runners or volunteers.   Emma Jeffery was first home in a time of 25:39, securing another top 10 ladies finish in an excellent 8th place. Cris Francis was second to finish for the club, in 26:26, with Kath Atkinson, Nicola Crawley and Rebecca Hurley not far behind in 26:46, 26:47 and 26:50 respectively. Tamsin Ritchie finished in 27:28 and Rachel Brisley (31:09), Kevin York (31:10) and Mel Cox (31:14) completing the team. Special congratulations this week go to Striders’ Lee Standen who reached a Parkrun milestone this week, volunteering for the 25th time at Victoria Park. He was joined by Libby Matthews as tail-walker and Linda Delport and Cris Francis who also volunteered. Further afield, Justin Burden travelled to Deal & Walmer Parkrun for the first time and set an excellent PB of 23:33.

Folkestone Half Marathon

A small team of Striders took part in the Folkestone Half Marathon this weekend, achieving some great results. Having set a PB at Deal Parkrun, Justin Burden completed the 13.1 mile Folkestone course in a time of 1:54:15 finishing in 20th place in his category. Jason Sanders was close behind and 24th in his category in 1:56:01. Linda Delport finished her first ever half marathon in 1:56:55 and was 34th female finisher and 8th in her category, with Kyleigh Austen completing the course in a time of 2:04:00 and 16th in her category.

Windsor Half Marathon

Nicola Crawley travelled to Windsor for her Half Marathon endeavours, finishing in 2:02:28.

Ashford Striders Takeover Parkrun

A large group of Ashford Striders members took on all volunteer roles at this week’s Victoria Park 5k, providing marshals and pacers for the event. Peter Lane was first Strider to finish, pacing a time of 26 minutes. First lady Strider home and 24th female overall was Rebecca Hurley in a time of 27:23, followed by Stephen Rumsey in 28:21. Josh Whiten who was pacemaking finished in 28:47 with Clare Dunn in 29:05. Alison Waters, Dave Hunt and Tyree Spicer were also providing pace times at 30:11, 32:05 and 33:39 respectively. Katie Iggulden Exon completed the course as this week’s Tail Walker.

Faversham 10k

A group from Ashford Striders ran at the Faversham 10k on Sunday 16th September. Corrie Shackle was first Strider to finish in an excellent time of 54:15. Katie Iggulden Exon completed the run in 1:09:58 with Jason Sanders and Allison Button joint in 1:12:10. This was Button’s first ever competitive 10k race, which is run by the Cystic Fibrosis Trust. As well as her running achievement, Button raised over £600 for the charity.

Larkfield 10k

Alison Waters, Kirsty Theobald and Pam Hunt took on the Larkfield 10k, covering the 2 lap course from East Malling Research Centre. Waters completed the route in a time of 53:12, with Theobald running her first ever competitive 10k race finishing in 1:22:37 and Hunt coming in alongside in a time of 1:22:39.

Ashford Parkrun

There were new Personal Best times set by the Ashford Striders top 3 finishers at Victoria Park on Saturday morning, with Linda-Jean Delport finishing first for the club and 7th female overall in an excellent time of 23:38.  Josh Whiten completed the course in 24:10 and Emma Jeffery improved on her PB yet again in an impressive 24:26.  Dave Hunt came home in 24:38 followed by Lee Standen in 26:43. Mel Cox finished in 30:27 with Ruth Goddard, Tyree Spicer and Louise McDonnell all getting round in 35:54. They were followed by Emily Moors (36:07) and Libby Matthews (42:13).

Further afield

Striders’ Cris Francis and Kevin York travelled to the new forest to take part in a challenging half marathon.  Francis finished in an excellent 1:45:01 with York also completing the 13.1 miles in a sub 2 hour time of 1:54:59.  As a warm up for the Half Marathon they also took part in the Brockenhurst Parkrun finishing together in 49th and 50th place overall, in the same time of 25:40.

Allison Button and Danielle Moss took part in a hilly Wingham 5k while Katie Exon ventured to Newcastle to take part in the Great North Run.  Jason Sanders completed a Nuclear Blast tough mudder obstacle race in Essex. Well done to all who ran this weekend.

Couch to 5k

Ashford Striders are always keen to welcome new members of all abilities, The next Couch to 5k Group starts on Monday 17th September.  The sessions will be in Finberry at 7.30pm on Mondays and are run by a professionally qualified coach.  Further details can be found on the Facebook page.

Parkrun takeover

Ashford Striders are taking over Ashford Parkrun this coming Saturday, 15th September, carrying out all volunteer roles at the event.  We look forward to welcoming people to our first ever club takeover.

Ashford Striders were at Ashford Parkrun to celebrate run leader Rachel Brisley’s 100th Parkrun in Victoria Park on Saturday.  This is a tremendous achievement and shows dedication and commitment to the weekly run.

First home for Striders and 12th female finisher overall was Alison Waters in 25:54, who was also 1st in her age category.  Rachel Brisley completed her centenary 5k in a time of 28:53 with Kevin York just one second behind in 28:54.  Libby Matthews finished in 32:38 followed by Allison Button (35:47), Toyah Bicker (37:00) and Pam Hunt (37:23).

Well done also to Lee Standen, Tamsin Ritchie and Katie Iggulden Exon who provided volunteer support at the event.

Further afield Striders’ Nicola Crawley took part in the Clapham Common Parkrun finishing in a time of 27:25, and club Chairman Cris Francis ran in Italy at the Milano Nord Parkrun, finishing in a very credible 26th place overall in a time of 24:23.

Tyree Spicer completed 2 half marathon runs in one week, at the Gravesend Cyclopark Saxons, Vikings and Normans 10 day challenge. Spicer’s first run in 2:26:34 was with club team mate Lee Standen, who pushed on to complete a distance of 16.4 miles in a time of 3:07:33. Spicer’s second half marathon just a few days later at the same event saw her finish in a time of 2:41:11, running alongside Striders’ Libby Matthews who finished the course in 2:41:08. Ruth Goddard also ran at the event, managing a superb 19.7 miles in a time of 5:13:33.

At Ashford Parkrun this week, Emma Jeffery continued her great form as 8 th female finisher with a time of 25:03, narrowly missing out on a new PB. Lee Standen completed the 5k in 26:29, followed by Rachel Brisley and Kevin York both with a time of 29:03. Pam Hunt (35:16), Allison Button (35:25), Toyah Bicker (36:45) and Emily Moors (37:31) also ran for Striders, along with Danielle Moss who ran a new PB for the second consecutive week, in a time of 38:32.

Jason Sanders was the lone Strider at a challenging Canterbury Half Marathon on Bank Holiday Monday. He finished the undulating course in a time of 2:08:34.

Podplus Ashford 5k

Jason Sanders and Allison Button competed in the Friday night race at Victoria Park. Sanders was 8th in a time of 23:02 and Button finished in 34:51 achieving 2nd place in her category.

Ashford Parkrun

Peter Lane, running his first ever Parkrun was first to finish for Ashford Striders at this week’s Ashford Parkrun, with an excellent time of 22:31. Jamie Bartlett was second home in 25:19 with Alison Waters first female and third placed Strider in 26:05. Rachel Brisley was close behind in 26:11. Rachel Oliver (31:39) and Danielle Moss (38:41) both achieved new Personal Best times for the 5k distance.

Folkestone Parkrun

Fresh from the Podplus Victoria Park run the previous evening, Jason Sanders was just one second away from equalling his Personal Best at Folkestone Parkrun’s 4th birthday event, with a time of 23:58. Tyree Spicer did achieve a new PB for the course with a time of 30:14, along with Allison Button who also gained a new PB in 36:08.

Oyster Man Triathlon

Striders’ Ross Sadd competed in the Oyster Man triathlon finishing in 45th place and 10th in his category, in an overall time of 1:18:04.

Ashford Parkrun

Ashford Striders took advantage of the pacers at this week’s Victoria Park run, with 4 club members all setting new personal best times for the 5k distance.

Jason Sanders was first home for the club in 58th position overall with a time of 23:27, followed by Emma Jeffery (24:57), who as well as setting a new best time, was 7th placed female and 1st in her age category. Alison Waters was 10th female overall and also 1st in her age category, finishing in 25:30. Lee Standen was next home for Striders (27:38), followed by Rachel Brisley (28:26) and Kevin York (28:27). Tyree Spicer also set a new personal best in 30:34 followed by Rachel Oliver (32:08), Emily Moors (34:04 – new personal best), Toyah Bicker (34:46 – new personal best), Katie Iggulden Exon (34:47) and Allison Button (36:56).

Parkrun Tourism

Kath Atkinson continued her impressive form in South Africa, this week running at Port Elizabeth Hobie Beach parkrun in a fantastic personal best time of 22:09, finishing 18th overall and 2nd female.

Brett Owler

Peter Lane, Cris Francis and Nicki Crawley all took part in Sunday’s Brett Owler summer races. Lane and Francis took on the full Marathon distance, with times of 4:34:59 (12th place – new personal best) and 4:38:35 (13th place) respectively. Crawley ran in the Half Marathon finishing in 2:42:57 despite carrying an injury.

Ashford Striders ladies were out in force at Ashford Parkrun this Saturday with another impressive performance from Emma Jeffery who finished in 27:05 and 21st female overall.  Hot on her heels with a new PB at Ashford was Corrie Shackle with a time of 27:19.  Rachel Brisley posted a time of 29:56 with Libby Matthews (32:38), Rachel Oliver (32:48), Katie Exon (35:46), Tyree Spicer (35:51) and Toyah Bicker (38:17) completing the team.

Jamie Bartlett impressed in the East Peckham 10k on Sunday 5th finishing in 61st place overall and 12th in his category with a Personal Best equalling time of 52:01.  He was joined by Tyree Spicer (1:04:25), 50th female and 10th in category and Katie Exon (1:07:19) who was 62nd female and 9th in her category.

Further afield Striders’ Kath Atkinson took the opportunity of running the Piggly Wiggly Parkrun in South Africa finishing in 19th place overall and 2nd female to finish the course with a fantastic time of 24:22.

Striders’ Kevin York, James Batchellor and Ross Sadd took part in the Bewl Water triathlon on Sunday undeterred by the hot weather.  Kevin, competing in his first Standard Triathlon, finished in a time of 2:49:27 with James shortly behind in 3:10:00.  In the Sprint Tri, Ross Sadd finished 48th overall with a total time of 1:20:09

Ashford Striders were out in force at Ashford parkrun this Saturday taking advantage of the cooler temperatures to post some good times.

First home for Striders was Kath Atkinson in an impressive 24:10 minutes closely followed by Cris Francis in 50th place with a time of 24:13.

Emma Jeffery not only achieved a top 10 female place this week, as 8th lady to cross the line in a time of 26:30, but she was also 1st in her age category. Kevin York was just one second behind in 26:31. Rachel Oliver posted an on-the-spot time of 32:00 followed by Tyree Spicer in 32:43, a new Personal Best for her at Ashford. Toyah Bicker completed the Striders team line up in 37:02.

Jason Sanders ran at Folkestone Parkrun completing the 5k in a great time of 25:03. Allison Button joined him on the coast, setting a personal best for the course in a time of 36:55.
